The 2007 Pearl Awards winners for 'Unsung Heroes' were:
Mr. Stanley Tse

Stanley Tse holds his award
For more than 30 years through his business and from his
own pockets, this individual has given unselfishly to the
needs of the Chinese community across the country. Beginning
way back in 1975 he has grown his company from humble beginnings and today has
his businesses in London, Glasgow and Greenwich.
He has particularly put his efforts into helping the elderly, and even offers
needy students sponsorships to continue their studies. Furthermore he has
been key in ensuring that the major festival events such as Chinese New Year
and Autumn Festival take place successfully and efficiently by financially contributing
to these events, thus bringing joy and pride to the community and cultural enrichment
for the mainstream communities.
If ever the phrase Unsung hero was to be bestowed upon an individual, this person
would certainly be the most deserving.
Ms. Florence Qiu

Florence Qiu receives her award
Our next deserving recipient of the Pearl Awards for ‘Unsung Heroes’ has
been instrumental in pioneering Chinese arts and culture in the Chinese community,
and to a wider mainstream audience in the North East of England. She founded
the Sino-Anglo Cultural Exchange Association and her work and dedication has
enhanced the quality of life for many of Newcastle’s members of the Chinese
community, providing access and education to both the young and the old. Her
work over the last 20 years has spanned the UK and China, and has linked traditional
and modern Chinese art to the mainstream, bringing different communities together. Her
achievements are too numerous to mention here tonight but in 2004, the Arts Council
of England said, “Without her dedication, we are sure most of us would
be a lot less knowledgeable about Chinese culture and Arts.”
Dominic Lee

In Mr. Lee's absence, his award was collected by his 13 year old son, Simon,

As one of the most prominent lawyer in the Chinese community, this individual’s
door is always open to those who need legal advice and support, which he gives
freely to those who are less fortunate. Charitable organisations and Chinese
associations have all benefited from his generosity and his unbiased attitude
towards helping the community in as many ways possible. He takes an active
interest in community matters and developments, always giving invaluable advice
and opinion without asking for anything in return.
